The Secretary Bird Copper Downspout was designed specifically for a house called Safari.

In-keeping with the property’s African theme, I chose the indigenous Secretary bird for her flamboyance - her stunning carnivalesque plumage and her huge eyes framed by enviable curling eyelashes.

Her expressive features made recreating her into copper so much fun. Once I was happy with the shape and scale of her beak, the eyes followed and then I took time building her feather by feather, working my way along until her final crown of plumes could be fixed in place.

The completed downspout measures an impressive 6ft in length, and when it rains the beak sends water shooting down into the gully below. I am so excited to see her mature and take on a gorgeous green patina as she is exposed to the elements.
