COPPER PENDANT LIGHTS

A trio of hand-textured copper pendants designed to enhance the central focus of a living space.

INSPIRATION

The heart of this space is a uniquely shaped 'boomerang' island, thoughtfully created to align with the kitchen’s ergonomics and the natural movement of the host. Its curves and softened edges draw guests and family in, inviting them to take a seat and spend time together.

For this design, the pendants act as a visual anchor, lowering the perceived ceiling height to a more intimate level, while the hammered copper provides a warm, tactile canopy.

PROCESS

To create the 'drum' shapes, I crafted two panels for each light with integrated tabs, allowing them to fit securely together before being soldered. I have always loved this 'stitched' approach for larger-scale pieces; it provides structural strength while serving as a distinct decorative element. There is something very honest and beautiful in celebrating the handcrafted method behind a design.

A reclaimed tree stump was used to create the organic texture while a salvaged steel pipe became my mandrel to form the final drum. The top was fitted using the same tab method.

A LIVING FINISH

The hammered copper surface deepens the minimalist design whilst softening the light to reflect a warm glow into the space below.

The copper can then be lightly cleaned or left to develop its signature green patina, the beautiful protective finish characteristic of a living metal exposed to the island's salty sea air.
