Your story
Inspired by my client's love of Africa and flair for the flamboyant, I chose two indigenous African birds as muses for these 6-foot sculptural copper downspouts.
The graceful Grey Heron and the commanding Secretary Bird.
your design
The Secretary Bird, with her dramatic crown of feathers and expressive eyes, became a joy to bring to life in metal, her beak and bold features emerging first, followed by meticulously layered plumage.
On the opposite side, the Grey Heron stands noble and watchful, his elongated beak a natural funnel guiding water to the gully below.
your unique space
Perched on opposite sides of the gallery roof, proudly overlooking the West coast, the two birds have become characters in the story of Safari House, channelling rainwater with elegance, developing a beautiful verdigris patina over time.
Working with repurposed copper sheet from discarded guttering, guided the creative process with the birds being crafted in layers and sections to minimise waste.
